Birth Preparation in South Lakes, Ulverston & Barrow: Personalised Antenatal Support with Doula Diary

If you’re looking for birth preparation in South Lakes, antenatal classes in Ulverston, or doula support in Barrow-in-Furness, you’re in the right place.

Hi, I’m Leanne, Nurse, Doula and Parent & Baby Wellbeing Teacher, based in the South Lakes area. Through my work with Doula Diary, I provide personalised, evidence-based birth preparation for families across Ulverston, Barrow, Dalton, Askam, Grange-over-Sands and the wider South Cumbria region.

Why Birth Preparation Isn’t One-Size-Fits-All

My approach to antenatal education is shaped not only by professional training, but lived experience.

My first pregnancy was healthy, yet I experienced an unplanned caesarean birth that left me processing trauma. For my second pregnancy, I prepared differently physically, emotionally and practically and went on to have a healing vaginal birth after caesarean (VBAC) at home.

I’ve been at both ends of the birth spectrum.

Since then, I have invested deeply in learning from leading educators in physiology, trauma-informed maternity care, birth biomechanics, nervous system regulation and advocacy within the NHS system. Every family I work with receives thoughtful, individualised preparation, not a generic script.

If you’re searching for:

  • VBAC support in South Lakes

  • Home birth preparation in Ulverston

  • Hospital birth confidence classes near Barrow

  • Birth after trauma support in Cumbria

I can support you.

Birth Trauma & Perinatal Mental Health Support in Barrow & South Lakes

If you’ve come away from birth feeling traumatised, anxious, low in mood or overwhelmed, you are not alone.

Alongside birth preparation, I run an in-person peer support group on the last Friday of each month in partnership with the PANDAS Foundation (Pre and Postnatal Depression Advice and Support).

The PANDAS Foundation is a UK charity supporting parents experiencing perinatal mental health challenges, including:

  • Postnatal depression

  • Antenatal anxiety

  • Birth trauma

  • OCD

  • Adjustment difficulties

Our South Lakes peer support group offers a safe, confidential space in the Ulverston/Barrow area to share experiences and feel understood.

I also work closely with our local Maternity Voices Partnership (MVP). MVP brings together parents, midwives and maternity professionals to improve maternity services. By sharing lived experiences, we contribute to positive change across Cumbria’s maternity care system.

Together, with our stories, we can do better.
